Tracey Ryan Pilates is a fully equipped boutique studio in the Union Square / East Village neighborhood offering quality private pilates instruction.
Tracey Ryan is a Pilates instructor with more than 15 years of professional experience. Born in the U.K., Tracey originally trained as a dancer and attended The London College of Dance where she received a first class degree in dance and pedagogy. She also mastered advanced level examinations from The Cecchetti Society, The Royal Academy of Dancing, The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and The Royal Society of Arts. After graduating in 1994 Tracey was offered a dance teaching position in New York and has been living and working in the U.S. since that time.
Tracey began to study Pilates in the late '90s and in 2002 was certified by Stott Pilates™ to teach both mat and apparatus to an advanced level. Having taught for a number of studios in Manhattan Tracey opened her own space in 2006 where she now teaches exclusively. Her extensive teaching experience enables her to work with a broad range of ages and skill levels from absolute beginners to elite athletes.
I started Pilates four years ago with Tracey and couldn't imagine life without it. Tracey has helped me immeasurably gain strength and flexibility which in turn has helped my golf game, the most important and every other sport skiing, tennis, you name it. Also as I sit at my desk all day my posture is ten times better and back never aches. Can't say enough good things about pilates and I recommend it to everyone I especially recommend Tracey and the Stott method.

I have gotten much stronger and I am in much better shape since I began taking weekly pilates classes with Tracey.
She is extremely knowledgeable and with this practice it is crucial that one works with someone who really knows
this well. It is easy to get injured with an inexperienced teacher. I would recommend Tracey to anyone who wants
to learn pilates.

When I was a Sophomore in college my doctor recommended that I do Pilates as part of rehabilitation from a car accident. I dabbled in Pilates in high school because I used to do ballet, but I never enough did Pilates enough to feel its full effects. After that fateful doctor's visit, I had a couple of random Pilates instructors over the course of several months before I was serendipitously assigned to Tracey. Her training, understanding of alignment, and dedication to the practice as a lifestyle of body preservation instead of an exercise in vanity was refreshing. I knew from that lesson that I found my instructor. Under her tutelage, I am stronger now than I was when I danced ballet five days a week. She is a true professional and integral to my dedication to a practice that I will continue for the rest of my life. Tracey is the best.

I've been working with Tracey for five years, training with her helped me to
stand up straight again after I suffered a severe lower back injury. I've
grown so much in my Pilates practice under her direction, her lessons are
always well-planned, challenging, and fun. I'm now regularly executing poses
I thought I'd never be able to do, Tracey has helped me to advance in the
most knowledgeable, patient and generous way. I value her both as a teacher
and a friend, and I always enjoy the time we spend together!

Tracey has all of the qualities one could want in a teacher. She's patient, encouraging, and demanding of her students ( in a gentle way ) as well as being sensitive to her clients when
things aren't feeing just right. I have been working with her for two years now and must say that Tracey is also such a great person that it's hard not to fall under the spell of her pilates studio.

I have never been very 'athletic' or into playing sports though I understand the importance of including exercise in one's activity to maintain a good quality of life. I have been a nurse for almost 40 years and I frequently suffered from back and neck pain. I was also diagnosed with osteoporosis. I made up my mind to get into some kind of exercise routine. Over the years I have paid membership to a gym or signed up for classes and then just stop going after a couple of months.
Pilate classes were conveniently in my neighborhood so I thought I would try it out. I had about 5 personal instructors before finding Tracey Ryan. As a nurse I could tell she knew her anatomy and physiology. She is very professional but also very personable and warm. She pushes me to my limit and I am confident that she will never do me any harm. Besides being good at the technical teaching I know there are two things that keep me going even after 4 years. One is that I am in my best form ever even though I am overweight. Tracey is good at what she does-I know she has saved me from endless bouts of back and neck pain. I am flexible, strong, have better posture and feel better than I could imagine. But just as important as her ability to show me the right moves is that I have never felt awkward or incapable with Tracey. She is honestly encouraging. She makes me believe I am in good form therefore I am.
I hope Tracey never moves out of my neighborhood but if she does I will follow her wherever. Thanks Tracey.

"I was willing to try just about anything to tone up and drop a few pounds, I had heard of Pilates before but thought it was a fancier style of Yoga. I thought how will I work a sweat doing that?! Well, having a former ballerina as your personal Pilates instructor changed my whole output toward Pilates. Tracey's style is phenomenal, her mannerism is regal; she is patient and makes you feel quite comfortable managing the equipment.
The results are ridiculous! You'll notice them in just a few sessions, if not just a few hours later. I walk, stand, and sit differently. My posture has improve tremendously. Not too mention, the flexibility and toning you acquire."

My girlfriend and I highly recommend working with Tracey. I was a bit hesitant about starting Pilates at first, because I had never done it before and didn't know what to expect. But it's certainly the best decision we have made in a very long time. Now we love it and look forward to it every week.
Tracey is a phenomenal instructor -- very knowledgeable, patient, clear, and encouraging. I can't say enough good things about her. She always changes the routines keeping things interesting and challenging. Plus she totally tailors the training to your specific needs so that you are getting a highly personalized, full-body workout.
It only took a few sessions for us to really start seeing the results. Done properly, Pilates is a very efficient workout that trains your entire body from head to toe. Having an instructor work with you one-on-one makes all the difference in the world. You can't compare it to the group classes at the gym, which we've taken and been very dissatisfied with.
No matter what your current training regimen is, you owe it to
yourself to incorporate one-on-one Pilates into your routine. And you
won't find a better instructor than Tracey

I first started Pilates when I was over 50 years old. I wondered whether I would be able to do it. Tracey is such an experienced and talented teacher that I could tell from the first moment that I would be challenged, but never injured. I am so much stronger now and am looking forward to doing Pilates for many more years to come.
I never was a person who could stick with an exercise or workout regime. That all changed when I gave Pilates a try and started working with Tracey. She comes prepared to each session with a lesson plan....I was really impressed by that. She is the perfect teacher--great at explaining the different moves, patient, encouraging and possesses an incredibly thorough knowledge of Pilates. I have been working with Tracey for a number of years now, and can't imagine not doing Pilates with her.
